I wanted to narrow down my thesis statement to a more concise statement and really focus on a smaller topic instead of such a broad generalization. Instead of doing a paper on why women are funny even though men and society agree they are not I am changing it to the differences in comedic styles between men and women and why and how this only encourages the idea that women can't be funny.
Although society regards women to be humorless and unqualified to present any sort of threat to a males comedic ego, numerous female’s have demonstrated that they do possess the ability and the witty repartee necessary in order to be considered a flourishing comedian. Men and women have varying preferences in comedic style and content, which only perpetuates the sexist stereotype of the female’s ineffectiveness to make a man laugh. However, there have been a plethora of scientific studies and research done on the subject of the distinct differences between what men and women interpret as amusing and establishes a plausible theory on why men are unable to embrace the opposite sex as an equal on the comedic stage.
Struggling with the idea of research....
